OUR HISTORY

OUR STORY

From humble beginnings, our journey is a tale of passion and determination that started on 1st October 2012, when Claire Fenwick decided to turn her dreams into reality by setting up the business as a sole trader. In the early days, Claire doubled as a freelancer for various companies, all while nurturing relationships with local architects, many of whom we are still serving, and building a solid foundation for our future.

As our reputation grew, so did our team, and we welcomed talented individuals who shared our dedication to delivering exceptional service. Fuelled by our shared commitments, we’ve tackled exciting projects like the Grenfell Estate regeneration and the historic United Grand Lodge of England survey. Our resilience shone brightly during 2020’s COVID-19 pandemic as we bravely adapted and continued expanding despite global uncertainty.

In 2022 we celebrated our tenth anniversary and expanded our coverage to the North and Midlands by opening our office in Nottingham.

As we step into the following chapters, we’re excited about the dazzling future ahead of us at Spatial Dimensions. Charting new territories and reaching more customers from all walks of life, we’re steadfast in our commitment to unparalleled customer service, affordability, and quality. Embracing the challenges of the future with open arms, we’ll continue to passionately drive forward as a close-knit team sharing our expertise and insights with everyone from architects to homeowners. We can hardly wait to measure, map, and model even more enchanting spaces across the UK, putting our customers and their cherished projects at the heart of all we do.

Spatial Dimensions was established on 1st October 2012, by Claire Fenwick. Claire worked as a sole trader for the first 2 years of our existence. Mostly sub contracting for other survey companies. She channelled the spirit of a one-woman army, determined not just to freelance but to build relationships with her own direct clients. Names like Offset Architects and GDM started cropping up on our client roster – and we're chuffed to bits to still be collaborating with them today. Our quaint first office sat cosily above a church on Bessles Green, where Claire and her trusted Leica TS06, crafted beautiful measured building surveys and topographical maps. 2013 was a cracker of a year for us, as we embarked on our first big project, surveying the Grade 2 listed gem, Squerries House in Westerham. We reveled in working closely with our happy client, providing top-notch service as always. As 2014 rolled in, we found our team expanding at a rollicking pace! To keep up with the lightning demand for our services, dear Claire masterfully managed subcontracted surveying and CAD tasks, keeping our commitment to quality, affordability, and customer satisfaction at the heart of our growth
By 2015, Spatial Dimensions was finding itself bursting at the seams with growth and opportunity! The workload began to sail beyond Claire's reach – but have no fear, reinforcements were near. Wayne, our very first CAD technician, joined us with warm enthusiasm in February 2015. The team bloomed beautifully and it didn't take long for our first surveyors, the talented Rob Herrin, and shortly after the amazing Dan Brouder came on board. Excitement grew as we embraced the future – our first laser scanner, the trusty C10, joined the family and quickly became our star team player! But with new members comes a fresh challenge – we needed a welcoming home to work from. So, in the spirit of community-driven solutions, we set up shop with our first proper office at 50 London Road, Riverhead, tucked neatly above Rawstone Tool Hire.
Fast forward to 2018 and our settled team was at full capacity. We were ready for further growth and Stefano Lauretta joined the team. Our portfolio bloomed and we began to work with top-notch architects BDP and 3D Reid. Joining forces, we embarked on fantastic projects like Cambridge University, The Sheraton Hotel in Heathrow, the Royals Shopping Centre, and the iconic Lewis's Department Store in Liverpool. Our clients' dreams were expanding, with a growing demand for surveys in Revit. Not to be left behind, we enthusiastically embraced modelling buildings in Revit in-house starting from 2016. Clearly, our passion for high quality measured surveys and dedication to our client's needs were striking the right chords!
Ah, 2019 – what an absolute belter of a year that was! We were chuffed to welcome Pete, Edu, and Karl to our Spatial Dimensions family, expanding our team's horizons. And speak of new horizons, in the autumn, we bid farewell to our old office and embraced the warm, welcoming space of Wealden Place - a move that underlined our growth and evolution. Our mission to "measure, map, and model" helped us land a plum project - the United Grand Lodge of England survey. Indeed, it was a feather in our cap, evidence that we could handle and excel at surveying thoroughly large and intricate heritage buildings. We love a good challenge, and this project put us to the test and showcased our strengths beautifully. But hold your horses, the excitement didn't stop there! The cherry on top was our very own Claire bagging the honour of 'European Land Surveyor of the Year' at the WICE ceremony in March. Talk about serving our customers with award-winning quality!
2020 – an unforgettable year, to say the least! Despite the challenge of living and working through the COVID-19 pandemic, our close-knit team at Spatial Dimensions pulled together like a fierce family. We stood by our values, didn't furlough anyone, and took the smart step of working from home to stay safe and keep operations running smoothly. During this remarkable year, our family grew stronger with the delightful addition of Molly Holness. We continued to serve our clients and kept our services s at the ready, measuring mapping, and modeling spaces that everyone had vacated during the pandemic As the year progressed, we achieved an exciting victory: winning the Grenfell Estate regeneration project. With our trademark optimism and determination, we persevered together.
As the world began to heal from the impact of COVID, our business here at Spatial Dimensions hit a new high, making us feel absolutely over the moon! And to top it off, we welcomed two fantastic new members to our team, Cameron and Antonio. The introduction of the Building Safety Act opened up a world of opportunity as we rolled up our sleeves to work on the Greenwich Millennium Village, as well as more lots at Grenfell and the neighbouring Silchester estate. We couldn't be happier to be part of these important projects, helping create safer spaces for the communities we cherish. But wait, there's more! Our love for enhancing spaces wasn't limited to just safety; we had the pleasure of being involved in several standout heritage projects. Working hand-in-hand with clients and history alike, our team contributed to the Portman Estate, Sloane Street, and Castlefield Viaduct ventures - blending our modern expertise with timeless legacies.
Wow, what a cracking year 2022 was! We added more retrofit work to our portfolio. We were thrilled to partner with the Portsmouth City council and Milton Keynes Council (Netherfield) and ECD on exciting sustainability projects, helping them design spaces that resonated with Mother Nature's heart. We were absolutely buzzing with the number of Revit models we were creating, helping our clients see their dreams take shape. But that wasn’t all. We're proud to have secured several projects with the Ministry of Defence, combining our passion for quality, affordability, and great customer service to provide them with the best. Closer to home, we ambitiously undertook the surveying of a stunning listed building in Kent, Hall Place, a large, invigorating golf club, and a lively college in West London. Midway, we welcomed the brilliant Joe and Tania into the Spatial Dimensions team. We kept evolving with a rebrand and a new website launch, both shining a spotlight on our commitment to maintaining a customer-first approach. We rounded off 2022 on a high note, shifting base to our lovely new home, Watermill House. Not only that, but we proudly celebrated our 10-year journey. The cherry-on-top was our grand client party attended by over 100 of our amazing clients, celebrating our decade-long journey.
