Yesterday our Managing Director and TSA President Claire Fenwick joined a panel of leading voices at the KOREC Technology User Conference (KTUC25) to discuss one of the biggest challenges facing the geospatial industry the survey skills gap.
The session brought together experts from across education, industry, and professional bodies, including Professor Jon Mills (Newcastle University), Richard Maltby (Maltby Surveys), Khaleel Ahmed (Dudley College), and Steve Coates (Royal School of Military Engineering), with Claire Fenwick representing The Survey Association.
THE AGENDA
Together, the panel explored key insights in our industry. Specifically, the growing demand for surveyors and the urgent need to attract, train, and retain new talent. As digital technology continues to transform the built environment, the skills needed within our industry are evolving faster than ever. This means our approach to developing people must also evolve.
Claire emphasised that bridging this gap requires collaboration between academia, training providers, and employers, as well as clearer routes for young people to enter and progress within the profession.
THE DISCUSSION
The discussion explored modernising qualifications, flexible learning pathways, and the surveying profession’s range, from land surveying to AI technologies.
Spatial Dimensions proudly supports these discussions. Built on teamwork, learning, and trust, we believe people are surveying’s future. Investing in skills today secures tomorrow’s industry and client success.
Thank you to KOREC for hosting an inspiring event and highlighting the human side of technological progress.
